Dog paw sores can be quite painful and are prone to infection if left untreated. You should always check out the condition of your dog's paws and pads.
How to treat paw and foot infections.
Buy special booties for walking while the paws or foot heals. The one product I always keep in my dog’s first aid kit is Panalog ointment. It is a powerful antibiotic cream with a steroid in it so it really goes after the infection in the paw.
- Wash the paw carefully
- Look for any cuts or foreign objects that may be under the skin
- Remove any burrs, matted fur and any splinters if you can.
- Take your dog to the vet for very serious cuts
- Dry the paw and apply a prescribed antibiotic ointment.
- Cover the feet with socks
- TIP: attach a shoe lace to the socks and place the shoelace over the back of your dog and then attach it to the other sock. This way the socks will be harder for your dog to remove.
